My Crash Davis Speech
(in Honor of Dave Rhodes)
I believe.
I believe in truth, honesty, and perseverance.
I believe that the harder I work the luckier I become.
I believe that the value of one’s life cannot be measured by things but experiences.
I believe that the advice of “talking heads” is over-rated and hard to understand.
I believe that the best advice is derived from the wisdom of others. It is supplied honestly and purposefully; it is given freely; with the intent to help everyone.

Who and What is Crash Davis?
Lawrence Columbus "Crash" Davis (July 14, 1919 – August 31, 2001) was an American professional baseball player whose name inspired that of the main character of the 1988 movie Bull Durham.
Bull Durham is a 1988 American romantic comedy sports film. It is partly based upon the minor-league baseball experiences of writer/director Ron Shelton and depicts the players and fans of the Durham Bulls, a minor-league baseball team in Durham, North Carolina.
The film stars Kevin Costner as "Crash” Davis, a veteran catcher from the AAA Richmond Braves, brought in to teach rookie pitcher Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) about the game in preparation for reaching the major leagues.
During one of the scenes of the film, Kevin Costner as Crash Davis gives a memorable speech listing the things he "believes in".
